Meet our team of Building Surveyors and administration staff

Ken Weir
Director
Qualified and registered Building Surveyor/Building Inspector

Building Surveying is a tough profession to obtain qualification but being qualified is not enough for Building Surveyors in this litigious industry. Continuing professional development and our quality assurance within KWA is what separates us from so many of our competitors.

I am proud to say we have saved our clients tens of thousands of dollars over the years with sound and economical Regulation advice (e.g. deletion of sprinklers, design restrictions so as to be exempt from the Town Planning process).Everyday is a new challenge and never the same.

It gives me great satisfaction when a project is completed knowing the building complies now and for future owners and that we have made every attempt to save the building owner money and still comply with the regulations.

I met my wife Vanessa at Horsham Show competing (equestrian) show jumping. Together we have developed a purpose breeding program which includes breaking, training and competing in show jumping. We travel the length and breadth of the state competing throughout the year. Being active in mind and body is what we are and why after all theses years are still passionate about our business, sport and each other.

Qualified and registered Building Surveyor/Fire Engineer/ Building Inspector

Together as a team we have a unique unity and bond. We like to maintain a reasonable level of fitness, are dedicated to turning up for work with a cheerful disposition and on time. The empathy and compassion for each other, particularly when facing fierce opposition, is what makes the team strong.

It is a major challenge for Building Surveyors to stay ahead of the game. It is like doing an exam every day (I do not mind being tested!) and being accountable for the results. It has been an incredible learning curve and a privilege to get some of the best work from draftspersons, architects and engineers that Victoria has to offer.

My passion outside of KWA is how I can positively affect those around me and be the best person I can by studying the scriptures. I am gratefully married to my wife of 32 years and have two adult sons who have “almost, sort of” left home. We live on a small rural property and I have ridden horses for over 50 years.

Paul Roberts
Qualified and registered Building Inspector

I enjoy working within the team at KWA because of the strong collaborative team spirit. Each employee brings their own skills, qualifications and experience. The collective knowledge and experience of our team of Building Surveyors increases my professional development and contributes to job satisfaction.

Being a carpenter for over 20 years from three generations of builders, I am passionate about the building industry. Now as a Building Inspector I’m able to utilise my trade skills with formal qualifications to assist owners / builders with onsite problem solving. I enjoy onsite inspections and working together with the owners / builders as part of team, whilst maintaining requirements of the Building Regulations and BCA.

I enjoy weekends away along the Murray River water skiing, dirt bike riding or sitting down relaxing watching some type of sport on TV, V8 supercars, football or cricket. I also enjoy dusting off the old chippy’s tools now and again to build or repair something.

Daniel deLacy
Office Manager
Qualified and registered Building Surveyor/Building Inspector

I enjoy being part of the team at KWA because it is a great environment that is cooperative, encouraging and professional. We all work well together as a team with a focus that produces high quality output that minimises potential administrative and construction errors.

As a Building Inspector I enjoy seeing some of the design concepts becoming a reality. Some of the buildings that are completed show professional and artistic design aspects and workmanship that is second to none. Sometimes I am awestruck at the quality of work completed and am excited to be a part of that process.

As a Building Surveyor I enjoy the technical side of the profession. It requires a high level of understanding of the Building Regulations that always proves to be a challenge while at the same time trying to relay these requirements onto other, professionals in the building industry (which includes tradesmen, designers, building owners and adjoining owners).

My passion outside KWA is my family. I have a wife and three young children who are growing really fast; and it never ceases to amaze me how quickly they grow and learn.

Administration

I get a great sense of pride in working in a team that has a revered reputation for quality in the Building Surveying field and for customer service.

After over five years with KWA there are still many new challenges and points of interest that come our way, never a dull moment.

I’m married with two boys who keep me very busy outside of work. With plenty of sporting and outdoor activities we all enjoy together, snow and water skiing, four wheel driving, footy etc, but hockey is my game which I play in a weekly competition.

Administration

We all work well as a team and have a responsibility to seeing our work is of the highest standard. We work towards helping each other and building a stronger service.

I enjoy helping people get the right advice about building their new project. Obtaining Building Permits is work for registered builders, this is their livelihood and I value our role in helping them get their building permits completed on time.

I enjoy time with my family and helping my sons as they become young adults and make career choices. Spare time sees me discovering good wines on the Peninsula and sharing margarita time with my friends.

Administration

I enjoy being part of the team at KWA because we all work well together. Each person has their specific job to do within the team to make sure the whole outfit runs smoothly and efficiently.

I like being able to do a broad spectrum of work within the business, with new information being supplied daily which in turn changes what work we have to carry out.

I am married to Ken and on weekends we compete throughout the state on show jumpers (horses). We breed and train the horses ourselves and it is a great thrill to be able to start from the basics and compete against the professional riders.
