WARNING: There are several foam board products on the market and many of them have not been tested for this application and therefore, are barely suitable for an esky!
During the building permit process, you will be required to supply the technical
documentation for the foam board you chose to use. This documentation is necessary as it requires the building surveyor to consider the test results and make a determination on the products suitability.
Those products without test documentation irrespective of the excuses, can not be approved. So don’t get caught out with the sales pitch.
Of course, as always, if you have a question on this matter, or others, please do not hesitate to call us.
Fire Warning!!!!
Bush Fire Regulations UPDATE
At last, there are finally some roofing systems in the market place that have been tested to the Australian Standards and are suitable systems to be used in flame zones.
The government has fast tracked another
amendment through and as of 10th
November 2009, bushfire shelters are now
a classifiable building (Class 10c) and
require a building permit. However, to be
able to issue a building permit, a shelter
must either have appropriate paperwork
from the Building Appeals Board in relation
to suitability OR an accredited system by a
registered testing authority.
At this stage there are no prescribed
construction requirements out of the BCA
which limits the options but I’m sure another
amendment to the Regulations is not too far
away.
As stated in the amendment, these shelters are to be used only as a last resort as they will not guarantee life safety, which only emphasis the importance of everybody’s fire plan, including when to leave.
